Bonjour;
Monday
For the first block we had assembly. No one from our class got SHINE bands or badges, and because it is Maori language week, they changed the SHINE principals from English to Maori. One of the teams from our school who did the Epro8 Challenge, made it into the semi-finals, and if they get into the Top 5 in the semis, then they make it to the Finals.
After assembly, we did some worksheets on apostrophes; where they go, how to use them etc. I am now confident with apostrophe placings.
After interval, we did SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) for fifteen minutes, then we did our reading or writing tasks, both of which I am finished, and some people did magazine reports. I was doing a magazine report for the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge, but I was sick on the day it happened, so I can't do it.
After lunch, we had speeches. By speeches, I mean that we were given a talk over what to do for speeches, how to write a speech, what to put in your speech etc. I don't know yet what I'm doing as my speech topic, but it is free choice, so we can do anything we want, as long as it has a meaning, and is something you can write a whole speech about.
After speeches, we did Maths. Currently for Maths, we are doing Percentages. I am up to date with the Maths work, and I have been learning lots. I understand everything I have been given to do on percentages so far.
Tuesday
For the first block we had Tech Arts; Food! For food today, I learnt how to make peach danish. It is actually pretty easy and it turns out sort of like a cake.
After morning tea we had SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) for fifteen minutes, then we had Maths; Percentages. For Percentages, I am currently learning about increase and decrease, and how to find the percent change. Here's how to find the percent change
After lunch we had English tasks, book review, persuasion writing and some people had to do their magazine reports, not me though. I am currently finished all English work, and I think I am going to put my name down for the Extension Writers\Readers Group.
Wednesday
Today I learnt LOADS! We went to a Marae in Pirongia all day, and we were taught about Maori culture and what they do, as part of Maori Language Week.
I first played capture the flag, a new game for me, and it is sort of like ripper rugby and instead of flags you use rugby balls and pass them to your teammates to get a point if they catch it.
We then learnt how to play a Maori stick game, where you had a time beat you had to follow, and, using sticks, you had different patterns and movements you had to do.
Then we did some carving art, and mine actually turned out good I think.
For the rest of the day we did the haka, another stick game, made fried bread and learnt a song.
I learnt heaps and it was a fun experience.
Thursday & Friday
I was sick on both of these days, unfortunately, because on Friday I was going to learn how to make Nachos, and do the Friday morning tea dishes.
Au Revoir.
