Week 6 Term 3

Bonjour;

In Maths yesterday, I learnt about formulae. Formulae is like using algebraic rules, which can look like this:
Y=x + 8
     7
G=3W + 10
Formulae rules look very similar. This is an example of a rule for formulate:
C=$40 + h x 20
In this example, a mechanic charges $40 call out, plus $20 for every hour attending a weekend breakdown.  So, for a breakdown taking two hours to fix, the total cost would be= $40 + 2 x $20.
If I was finding the cost for the mechanic being called out for 3 hours, the fomulae would look like this:
$40 + 3 x $20, and the total cost (the answer) for three hours would be: 100.
On Tuesday, we finished Number Patterns, and are now starting on something new.

I started something called Newsela, which is a reading website, and you answer four questions about the story at the end of each story, and I got 100% right! ;)

Week 5 Term 3

Bonjour;

This Friday we have Inter House Cross Country,  a competition that the whole school does, where we run 3KM, a distance that the whole school has been practicing for the last five weeks.
On Friday was Inter House Cross Country, so now it is all over, and we don't have to run anymore. ;)
We got let go to start in four groups. We started in the hall, because the weather wasn't looking to good, and the grass was all wet from earlier that morning. First, the Year 7 girls went to do the Cross Country track, and while they ran, everyone else stayed in the hall and watched a movie. Twenty minutes later, when the first Year 7 girls were starting to get back, the let the Year 7 boys go. Then for another twenty minutes, everyone in the hall watched the movie. Then when the Year 7 boys were starting to come back into the hall, the Year 8 girls, me!!!, got to go. We started and then when we finished, the Year 8 boys started. I got 61st place, which I guess is OK. Once everyone was back in the hall and finished, we went back to class and that was basically the end of the day.

Week 4 Term 3

Bonjour;

In Maths we have been finishing off learning about measurement.
For measurement, we have been learning about converting. This is  a few conversions we have been learning about:

1L=1KM
1CM=1GM
1MM=1MG

Those ones with the equals sign mean they are the same size, really.
This is something we have to remember the conversions correctly.

Next week is Interhouse Cross Country.
This is where everyone from the school participates in a 3KM long run that we have been practicing for the last four weeks.
The run is on the streets, then it goes onto farmland and back onto the park by the school again.

Week 3 Term 3

Bonjour;

It's week three of term three! This week we finally went out onto the streets for Cross Country. The way we go on the streets is we go round the school like we would usually, then we cross over to Sherwyn Park and once we get past the shed, we turn onto Raikes Ave. Then we run straight until the end of the road, where we turn left and run up a steep, long hill. Then we run straight before turning left onto the Matariki downhill. At the bottom of the hill, we turn left again into a small alleyway, that some people tend to miss. Then we head back onto Raikes Ave and at the end, we go at a diagonal right across and up and footpath ed hill then we run straight over to the Fladgates' Village and then we turn in to another small alleyway onto Sherwyn again, then we run down to the shed and in a diagonal over to a small hill, then we run all the way down the side of Sherywn and cross over the pedestrian crossing back into school grounds. Then we run down to the offices, and that is one whole lap; 3 KMs. WIMS cross country (I am not involved in that) is Week 4 Tuesday, and two people from my class are in it. Then in Week 4 on Friday is Inter House cross country, which everyone does. This track covers farm land a with lots of steep hills, and I think it is just 3 KMs, but it is hard with all the hills. We start in age groups, separately.  I think Year 8 girls go first, then Year eight boys. After that is Year 7 girls, and then after them is Year 7 boys.

This week I learnt about Pi. Pi in numbers is actually 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286 ...And a lot more numbers, but the abbreviated version is just two decimal places: 3.14. You use Pi for finding circumference of circles in Maths.

So, the diameter is 10 cm. What you do is you multiply the diameter (10 cm) by Pi (3.14) to find the circumference of a circle that has a 10 cm diameter. The answer of that would be 31.4 cm.

Pi can also be use to find the area of circles.
If we use the same example of a circle with 10 cm, this is how you do it:

First you need to divide the diameter by two, to make the radius. You need the radius because for finding area it is by radius, not diameter. So now the circle will look like this:

Because we now have the radius. So what we do is we multiply the radius by Pi (3.14). The answer for this would be 15.7, the area of the circle.

Week 2 Term 3

Bonjour;

It's week two of the third term.
We have ICAS English; which is once every year.
For Tech arts, the Year 8's (Me) are still doing Food, and the Year 7's are still doing Music. For Food, I am planning my part for the Cafe we are doing. Everyone chooses something sweet or savory. I chose sweet, and for sweet I am making a plate of star shaped pastry puffs with jam and cream in the middle. They are star shaped because our theme is Beach, and all the food we make has to apply to the theme.
We have two practice sessions to perfect what we are making next Friday.
We get to invite two people to our Cafe, and they get to eat as much of the food as they want, anyone's.
On Friday we have team Jump Jam, and we get to wear a shirt the color of our house; mine is red (Waipa.) For Jump Jam, the whole school goes to the ALC and does Jump Jam for most of the day.
