Bonjour,
Monday
For Maths today I have worked on multiplying and dividing numbers, and multiplying and dividing decimals. To multiply numbers in an algorithm, you need to set it up the the example below. If your equation was 364x45, your algorithm would look like this
364
x45
From that set out, you would start multiplying. First you multiply the column to the lower right, where the number is 5. You then multiply this number with the number above it, which is 4. So it would be 5x4, which, if you do the maths, equals 20. Then you put that number down below the underlined numbers to create your new row of working:
2
364
x45
0
When you have a two digit number, you put the ones column in the line of working, and then tens column number above the next column to the left in your actual equation. Then you multiply the next number, 5x6. Then when you have that number, you add the number above the six to it, so 30+2=32, then you do what was explained before, and add the tens column to the next equation number to the left, making it:
3
364
x45
20
After this you finish the first row, then on the second row, you go down a line and start with a zero (0), and then you repeat the steps above till you have finished the whole second row, you add together the two rows, adding each column.
In class we use mostly Chromebooks, and we always use Google related things on the internet. In the past I have used lots of extensions, that are made for Google and show up in each new tab, making a quick and easy way to do things. We downloaded two extensions. The first one was called Google Dictionary. Google Dictionary is and extension where, when you click the Google Dictionary icon on the tab you are on, it opens in that same tab in the top right hand corner, using little space. When it pops up, you have a bar where you can type any word or phrase. Then you press enter or click the define button, and it will find the meaning of the word for you, quick and easy. The second extension we downloaded was an extension called Save to Google. This extension, when clicked, shows up in the top right hand corner and comes up with an option to add a tag. What this extension does is, when you are in a tab that you want to save or come back to later, and you don't want to leave it open or taking up space, you can click the extension and it will come up with the option to add a tag, then you click save, and it will save your tab, and you can exit out of it. Then when you go onto the website, Save to Google will have all your tagged and saved tabs there for you.
For Reading in class, we are continuing to do a summary of a short story, called The Man With Enormous Wings, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It is a story about an angel who comes down to Earth with a point of giving all the people a message and a lesson. The lesson was to teach the people of that area to respect others, maybe others who may look different, act different, or talk different etc. The angel teaches people about respecting others and not 'judging a book by its cover', in other words, not judging people by the way they look.
Tuesday
In the first block of Tuesday, we had Tech Arts. For Tech Arts at the moment, the subject we are doing is music. I am not the type of person who is really into music and enjoys it, so I have never actually played an instrument before, as in learning one. Today we learnt about Irish music, which is weird but catchy, and it makes you want to dance. We had to write our own Irish jig, and play it on the keyboard so we could hear what it sounded like. My jig was made up of all C's and E's, because they are easiest, for me at least. I don't know what mine sounded like, because I didn't have time to play it on the keyboard. We also learnt some things about ads, and why they were made, and what makes them catchy, and gets your attention. Some of the ads I think are annoying, catchy, stay-in-your-head-all-day, or ones that get your attention are the following. The Warehouse, McDonald's, The Gigabytes ad that was on a while ago, Smith&Smith, and Noel Leeming, especially the part where it goes: 'No one but Noel Leeming..'
For Writing in class, we are currently doing reports, which are due next Wednesday. For the reports, we had to pick a subject out of about seven, and then we were given a sheet of information of our topic. Then from the information we were given, we had to take notes for our report. So far I have four paragraphs, and my subject is Bottle nose Dolphins.
Wednesday
For Maths we have been focusing on Fractions. For fractions, we have been adding, subtracting, converting, and more. To help us with these if we don't understand them, we have links to YouTube videos, where the You tubers explain to us through YouTube how to do things with fractions.
In JumpJam, we learnt a new routine, called Freaks. It is a song that came out last year, and just now we have been shown the routine, and it is really weird. Like all other JumpJam routines, it is very repetitive.
Thursday
For the first block, we had Extension Art. Right now, I am doing a painting of a waterfall that I showed in one of my earlier posts. I am about just over one third of the way finished.
For this Friday, we are doing Winter Games. These are sports, and we get to choose out of about nine. I chose Corner ball. For this, it is basically a game where there are two teams, and one team has the ball, and they have to pass it round to each other, to tag the other team's members with it. But when you have the ball you can't move your feet.
On Thursday afternoon, we had student assembly. What happened was the students of the school took the assembly, and people told us about their camps, upcoming and past school trips, and what is happening or has happened. Every week we have a class choose a video for us, that can be funny, inspirational, etc. The video this week was cool. It was off YouTube, and was done by some people called Dude Perfect, who do trick shots.
Friday
Today for first block we did reading, writing and maths, so we were finishing off work that needed to be done.
In the second block me and Jorja had dishes, and every Friday for morning tea, the teachers have a big morning tea, and I think everyone brings something edible. So when we get there after morning tea, we get to eat some of whatever's left\uneaten.
We also had music for Tech Arts we have music. On Friday we learnt about blues music, from ages ago. Blues music is music, they used to play and I think they still do, over the other side of the world. In the USA and things. We watched a few videos on blues and then we had to write our own blues song with lyrics. We didn't finish our songs, but I write about Jorja's pet which died a long, long time ago. (A bee called Barry.)
This afternoon we had Japanese, then we were supposed to have Winter Sports but it was cancelled due to the weather.

Week 3 Term 2
Bonjour;
This week we have started a new writing task; report writing.
For this, we had to choose out of six different animals to write about, panda, giraffe, meerkat, bottle nose dolphin, hector's dolphin or bumblebees. There were a lot of people doing the panda, so I chose to do my report on hector's dolphins. With our reading task, we had to read a story, that was phrased in old words that we don't use anymore, and then use the thesaurus or dictionary to look up the meanings of the highlighted old words. When we had finished, we then have to write a summary about the story, the traits and attitudes of the characters, and what they did to change the story, and what impact they made on the story.
For Tech Arts, we have started a new cycle, which means we start on a new subject out of the six subjects we have throughout the year. Our new cycle is Music. For music, we are taught how to play different songs and tunes on the keyboard, different strings and sounds on the guitar, and we also learn a bit of drums. Currently we are learning about Irish music and created some of our own tunes to play on the keyboard. Mine was made up of C's and E's only because I am not a musical person, and I don't have a complex understanding of music and notes and strings etc.
On Wednesday and Thursday, most of our class was out for those two days for Music Camp, or, more accurately, Music Workshop, because our school didn't camp the night. I don't know much about Music Workshop, or what it was like, because I don't play any instrument so I wasn't part of it. I do know that all of the school that played an instrument went to the hall and ALC along with other schools that came, and camped, to learn about music and know how to play their instrument better. The travelling schools camped over the night, and for the two days they played and learnt music, and worked up to a small concert that they showed some of the school, that I didn't see.
We didn't have JumpJam or French this week, but I hope we have them next week.

Week 2 Term 2
Bonjour!
(Hi!)
Monday
In Maths today, we learnt about properties in angles and for lines.
Part of this was learning how to find angles in triangles.
To find a angle in a triangle, you need to know this: All angles in a single triangle add up to 180'.
Equilateral triangle:
In an equilateral triangle, all the sides are equal, so you divide 180' by three.
Isosceles triangle:
In an isosceles triangle, all the sides are equal, so you use the number that you are given:
In the example, the two bottom angles are both 72', because they are both the same angles.
Right angle triangle:
In a right angle triangle, there is usually a 90' angle going up the left side of the triangle.
To find the three angles, you already know that the bottom left angle is 90', so you just need to find the bottom right and top right.
Scalene triangle:
In a scalene triangle, all the sides and angles are different.
Because of this, you would need a protractor to find the three angles.
Lacrosse
Today we had a lacrosse session for a whole block. (1 and a half hours.)
This was the first time that I had ever played lacrosse.
In lacrosse you need to hold the tennis racket like thing in the picture below with a net.

The aim is to catch and throw the balls using your stick and net only, no hands.
It is really hard at first, but also really fun.
In Term 4 I think we have a school lacrosse team, so I would probably join that team.
Tuesday
Tech Arts
This morning, first block, we had tech arts.
For tech arts at the moment we are doing Science.
Today we made bath bombs!
(In the shape of CUPCAKES!)
To make the bath bombs, we had to mix multiple ingredients, with our hands, and then we compressed it fully into a cupcake mold.
We had to leave it in the science room until Friday, then we could take it home.
Wednesday
Today we had Maths, Reading and Writing, then Jump Jam!
Jump Jam
Wednesday, last block, we did Jump Jam!
This has been my first Jump Jam session for about seven or eight weeks, so I enjoyed it!
Thursday
Today, first block, I had extension art.
In extension art, I'm painting a landscape picture, this is the picture:
Tech Arts
Middle bock of Friday was tech arts!
Today, after a science test, we got to make SHERBET!
It's really sour, and fizzes in your mouth instantly.
Like the bath bombs, we had to mix in all the ingredients with our fingers.
We were given two scoops of citric acid, but we could have more if we wanted, to make it more sour.
I got a third scoop, 'cause I love sour.

Week 1 Term 2
Hé, il est Terme 2!
Hey, it's Term 2!
Week 1:
Mike King
This week on Tuesday we had a talk from Mike King.
Mike King is a famous comedian, who talked to us about depression and addiction, and how he got over being alcoholic and a drug addict.
He told us that as a kid he got bullied for having a big head, so other kids called him Head. Every day he sat outside the staff room, because if you sat outside the staff room, kids wouldn't bully you, because they would get caught because the teachers would see them.
When he got slightly older, he started telling jokes, and he was asked into the 'popular kids' group.
They used him to bully other kids, and at first he didn't realize. But when the kids made him pick on his friend, Nigel, he didn't have the courage to say no to them, and he bullied his friend, because when he was with the 'popular' group, they didn't pick on him.
But eventually they got bored of him, and they kicked him out.
As he got older, he got more and more depressed, and he showed it in anger, and sometimes he had anger spasms over absolutely nothing.
When he was about twenty, I think, he went to his mate's house, who was a police, and took out his depression on him. The policeman friend then suggested he get a councilor because Mike had depression. He completely disagreed, so the police friend took him over to his councilor; Stella.
Stella talked to Mike about how he was, who he was etc.
He then said that she thought he had depression. He disagreed angrily, until Stella told him that the first sign of depression in men was anger.
She then talked about him and his addictions for drugs and alcohol, and gave him some solutions to get back on track again.
Now he is a better husband to his wife, father to his children, and friend to others.
Tech Arts
This week for tech arts we have been learning how to measure PH levels in a liquid.
We used the color-changing paper strips, and put them in different liquids to watch them change color. Then we put them on our tongues, and they were green.
I finally have my Moonboot off!
Yes!
So, now I can actually do things!

Camp Week
Camp Week
From Wednesday morning to Friday afternoon, it was Room 3's and 7's camp to the Narrows.
On Wednesday morning, everyone arrived at school early, and in a few hours, all our gear was in the school trailer and we were all in cars on our way to Narrows.
We arrived, unpacked our gear in our cabins, and we all gathered inside the big hall where we ate, met, etc.
The man who ran the camp came up and talked to us about the rules of his camp, the times we would eat, and where we were allowed.
Next we were all split into activity groups, consisting of up to seven or eight students. While we found our way over to our first activity, the adults were given a big talk about safety and responsibility etc.
My group's first activity was trolleys.
The trolleys were like go-karts, but without an engine, or proper steering wheel. You had a pole type of steering wheel to help you move left and right while you were on it. When we sat on it, we had to be sitting right up against the bars along the sides and back of the trolley, and your knees had to be slightly bent, with your feet flat against the front bar.
Then you were pushed down the dirt and grass hill down to a flat where you slowed, then stopped.
We were on each activity for about forty-five minutes.
Our second activity was the water slide.
The water slide was made out of mostly plastic that you slid down on, the you came down and finished in a pool of sandy water that was held by plastic covers.
Everyone had multiple goes, then we had a break for lunch.
After lunch, we continued with our third activity.
Our third activity was BMX.
My group, unlike a few other groups, used the metal circuit, a loop that you went continuously round and round.
We did a few races, I took photos, and then we had a short break to get changed and eat.
After that, we completed our last activity for the day.
My group's was Go-Karts.
My favorite activity!
We had a circuit to go round, and we got timed for our first lap each time.
The fastest time when my group got to Go-Karts was 12 seconds.
When we got there, though, the second Go-Kart with a hand controlled throttle was broken, because the 12 seconds group broke it.
This was an activity I actually got to participate in, because, thanks to my Moonboot, I couldn't do BMX, waterslide or trolleys.
My time was, I think, the fastest of my group.
I want to say that I beat 12 seconds, but I didn't.
But I did make it into the elite 15 group, with 15 seconds!
Lastly, we came back for dinner.
Then we showered, and had the option of going on the Burma trail or not.
If we didn't want to, we could watch a movie instead.
I stayed and watched a movie, because the track was wet and muddy, and I had my Moonboot.
The next day, Thursday, was the day we did our last activity, Archery.
I haven't done archery in about 3 years, so it was more getting back into it for me.
In all of my shots, my closest to a bulls eye, was, literally, a centimeter off.
Once we had finished our last activity, we mucked around on the foot guided swing for a while, then we were called back for morning tea.
After that, we had to participate in some team building activities which were Narrows games that the came had made up for us.
Then we had a lunch break and some free time.
Then we did another team building activity, that took a while.
And was harder than I thought it would be.
The first thing that we did was split into teams of three.
Then one person, me, had to stand with an empty cup in between their feet, and balance it while the other two filled it with water from the drain, carried over in their hands.
Then we had to pick the cup up without our hands, and find something to balance it on; the catch being that what were balancing on had to be adult eye level height.
When we had completed that, we had to stand behind a line, and use sticks and other objects to reach a box of matches.
Once we had our matches, we made out way over to a structure of two poles of wood in the ground, holding a piece of string, and we had to build up our fire so that the string burnt.
Our string burnt successfully, and then we had to keep a constant fire going to cook our afternoon tea; damper.
We failed, and had to use someone else's fire to cook our food.
I have never tried damper before, and some people didn't like it, but I thought it was actually nice.
Then we went back up to the grass area outside the hall, and we were explained the instructions of our next game.
After that, we had dinner and dessert, then we had a bonfire, and we sang songs and laughed.
The next and last day, was Friday.
After we had breakfast, we went straight to Paintball, but not me, because I couldn't get my
Moonboot dirty, unfortunately.
Next we had to wait for the other class to do paintball, and we had free time.
Then we had to pack up our cabins and our gear, and it was lunch time.
After lunch, most of us had a swim in the pool, but not me.
Then, unfortunately, we had to go home.
I was really disappointed to leave the Narrows, because it was an amazing camp, one of the best I've ever been on. It was definitely a very memorable three days, with so many opportunities, my absolute favorite being Go-Karts!
Thank you so much to all the teachers and parents that came on camp with us, and helped us, and all the Narrows staff who cooked, cleaned and made us feel at home.
And, they also did the dishes for us, which was really awesome!
Thank you to all the above! ;)
