Week 8 & 9 Term 1

Tech Arts
On Tuesday we had our second lesson of Science!
Because I missed the first lesson of Science, I was slightly behind.
On Tuesday we watched an experiment, where Mrs.Tyson had some white powder in a beaker, and then she had some different white powder in another beaker. She filled the first beaker with water, then she poured the water beaker into the powder one, and orange fizz and bubbles exploded over the top of the beaker. We learnt about this chemical reaction, and then we had to write a report about what we saw.

Easter
I am so excited!!Because...this weekend is Easter!!!
AND, I might be going to the beach for 5 DAYS (the whole weekend!)

Makuhari
Makuhari students left yesterday! I didn't have a Makuhari student, so I didn't really know much about about it, but Rowan had a Makuhari student, so she got to take her student round New Zealand so that they could learn about our culture.

Week 7 Term 1

Bonjour! (Hi)

This week hasn't been to busy, but I have learnt and revised some new things in the last three days.

On Monday I revised my knowledge for integers with positive and negative numbers.

On Tuesday we did and learnt heaps. In the first block we had Tech Arts. As you know, we have been doing speakers and phone holders. Before I started on Tuesday, I was hoping that I would finish both of the projects I was working on before I moved onto the next Tech Art (Science). And I finished both my speaker and my phone holder! For the speaker, I had to glue the speaker parts onto the box, then I had to wire everything up, and plug all the wires into the Motherboard. This is like the main technical thing, and I didn't even know what it was until I got up to this part of my speaker. So once we had attached the wires to the Motherboard, we had to hot glue on the battery pack, and add the batteries to it. Then we needed to screw the back on, and test if it worked the first time. Thankfully, mine did! Then I finished bending my phone holder into shape, and I had a second phone holder!

Wednesday was more learning, and then in the afternoon, we had Jump Jam, but I couldn't participate because I hurt my foot on Monday night doing a round-off back handspring in gymnastics. It it still sore, and swollen!

Salut!

Week 6 Term 1

Bonjour,

On Monday I got my second Never Give Up band, and also my second Show Respect band.

This week (Tuesday) we had boating! I learnt some new things about water safety, and how to exit the boat safely. There are two ways to do this. The first way was to hold the two sides on the front of your life jacket, at the height of your chest and fall backwards into the water so your head went under and you came up about a meter away from the boat. The second way to get into the water safely was to put your legs over the side of the boat and face the people in front of you in the boat. Then you need to do a quarter turn downwards into the water, still holding onto the side of the boat, and let go of the boat when the bottom half of your body was in the water. We also learnt what different sorts of flares mean, and what they are used for in an emergency on the water in your boat.

Friday was our second to last Tech Arts!
I hope that I get everything finished next Tuesday! I have learnt heaps in this Year's had materials sessions, including how to put together a speaker box, and wire it up, and how to cut the shape out of plastic for a phone holder, and then bend it with a curling iron.

We also had Friday Sport, and we got to play a proper game of volleyball.

Week 5 Term 1- Weekly Reflection

Salut! (Hello) Hi everyone!

This week (Week 5) has been busy in preparation of Inter house Swimming Sports. This is a whole school event where champion swimmers try out for the champion swimming events, like 2 length freestyle, 2 length backstroke, 3 length medley, and two length butterfly and breaststroke. There are also lots of non- champion events, for students who aren't as fast as the champion swimmers, and still want to compete for a place in the race. There are all the races mentioned before, except for medley. There are also fun races, like doggy paddle and walking races. These are only for the students who didn't make it into a final for the champion races, or didn't want to be in a champion race. Unfortunately, I had a cold on the day it took place (Friday) so I could not take part.

This week I have learnt about commas and punctuation, and the proper place for them to go in a sentence. I revised my knowledge for simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences, and compound complex sentences. Simple sentences are sentences with out any ForAndNorButOrYetSo in them.  Compound sentences are sentences with FANBOYS in them somewhere. Complex sentences are sentences with AWUBIS words in them somewhere. Awubis words re kind of similar to fanboys. Compound complex sentences are sentences with fanboys and awubis words in them.

This week we had Tech arts twice. For the second tech arts of the week on Friday, we started up again on our phone holders, because I had got my first layer of paint on my speaker, and it wouldn't be properly dry until next Tuesday. I got my phone holder cut into shape, and now I'm looking forward to being able to bend it with the plastic benders on Tuesday. What I learnt in that week of tech arts was how Mr Graham paints the speakers. He paints them with a spray hose! It is mostly so the dry quicker I think, but also so it is faster and easier to paint. I also learnt how to bend plastic with a plastic bender. You have to hold it in place where you want to bend your plastic, and hold that for at least one minute. Then you let go, and you bend it into the shape you want for you phone holder. Then you continue with all your other bends you need for your speaker, and you have you phone holder!

Au Revoir!
More next week!
