Week 9 Term 2

Bonjour;

Monday
In the first block, we had to take our Science Fair boards into the hall, and put them into the section they belonged in, either on a table or on the floor against a wall. The sections were Physical World, Material World, Living World, Real World, and my Science Fair is in Material World.
After Science Fair, we did Maths, and I completed all the assigned work on Percentages, and converting them.
In the second block we had ALC time, and we did soccer. After that, we did English skills; Semicolons and Apostrophes in our English and Reference books, which was really just revision for me.
In the last block, after lunch, we had Reading and Writing tasks to do, this is the book review that I have already completed, and the Persuasive writing, which I have started, and done three paragraphs on.

Tuesday
For the first block, we had Tech Arts, as usual, and we started a new cycle; Food! I think that Food is the best Tech Art, probably because I love to cook/bake. For Food, we made cheesy rolls and dip sticks. The rolls were really nice.
After morning tea, we did SSR, then my reading group (GP1) went down to the floor with the teacher for Summarising Texts.
Then we continued with our reading and writing tasks, which I am finished with, expect for needing to edit my book review. I am doing my book review on Fear, by Michael Grant, part of the Gone Series. This is an amazing series; I definitely recommend it to anyone intermediate age or older.
After lunch, we had maths; Percentages. My group had to go down to the teacher again.

Wednesday
In the first block, we had Maths, and my group (GP1) had to come down to the floor with the teacher for Percentages; Increasing and Decreasing Percentages.
At 9:30, we went to the hall to look at all the finished Science Fair boards. There were over 420 boards to look at.
After that, we came back to class and continued with Maths.
Then we went to the library to exchange, return, or renew any books.
After interval, we had SSR, which stands for Sustained Silent Reading.
Then we had to do our Reading and Writing. I edited and proof read my Book Review, and finished my Persuasive writing about plastic bags and how they need to be banned.
After lunch we continued with the same thing, because most people haven't finished their draft yet.
At 2:00, we went to the hall for a Powhiri. A Powhiri is when we welcome someone\some people to the school, and it is a big assembly to introduce them to the school.

Thursday
In the first block, I went to Extension Art. My painting is slowly being finished, and I am happy with how it looks so far, it is finally coming together.
After morning tea, we had the choice of Maths, Reading or Reading, whatever we needed to get finished.
After lunch there was the first lot of TAI vs Belmont sport. We were all going to go watch the sport, but it was raining too much, so we had to stay inside.

Friday
For the first block, we had a choice of Maths, Reading or Writing, whatever we needed to get  done. Then there was a Belmont assembly, I guess to make the exchange students feel welcome.
In the second block we had Tech; Food.
For Food today, I made Foccacia bread, and for my toppings, I put on ham and cheese.
In the last block, we had Japanese, and we learnt about food, and we got to use some chopsticks. Using the chopsticks, we competed to see who could pick up the most small wooden blocks in twenty seconds. I got sixteen on my first go. After that, because there was no Friday Sport, we did JumpJam.

Week 8 Term 2

Bonjour;

Monday
On Monday, some people from our class got SHINE bands, but not me. After assembly we had Maths, and I am up to date with the current maths, despite being away sick for two weeks.
After morning tea we had volleyball. My serves this week were OK, except for one that went to the side.
Later we did persuasive writing. I have already started on this, and my topic is: Plastic bags should be banned in all supermarkets and retail stores.

Tuesday
For the first block we had Tech Arts; Music. For music currently, we are making up a dance, and we have to have things like shadowing, formations, etc. My dance group is me, Jorja and Megan. The song we are dancing to, we didn't have a choice, was Freaks, by Timmy Trumpet. We almost finished our dance, then we had a new person join our group, so we had to convert our three person dance to a four person dance.
After morning tea, we did our Science Fair. Science Fair happens every two years, so you only get to do it once, and you have to have a question, not a yes or no question, and you need to do experiments to answer your question. We have to hand in our Science fair boards by Friday, to be exhibited on Monday, and judged by Mrs Tyson and some other judges.

Wednesday
For the first block, we did Science Fair again, and I got almost everything done, I just needed to stick everything on. After morning tea, I had to go onto the floor for multiplying and dividing fractions because I got then both wrong in the test.

Thursday
For the first block, I didn't go to Extension Art because I needed to print out and color back my writing, and I finished doing that in one block. In the second block, I went to extension art, and I got a lot of my painting done. At lunch, I went home, so I don't know what happened.

Friday
Today I had to hand in my Science Fair project with my log book.
After morning tea was Tech Arts, and we finished and presented our dance. We had to change it AGAIN, because Rowan, then Raiha left.
After lunch, we had Japanese, and we made some origami.
Then we had Friday sports, and I did Jump Jam.

Week 7 Term 2

Bonjour!

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
All these days I have been sick, so this is going to be a short blog post for this week.
Hopefully on maybe Thursday and Friday I can be at school again after eight days of being in bed sick. Literally.

Au Revoir.

Week 6 Term 2

Bonjour!

Monday & Tuesday
For Tech Arts we learnt about Maori music, and Maori instruments. We also listened and watched people on YouTube playing the instruments. For our reading we are currently doing a novel analysis. For this, we have to pick a book we have recently read this year, and we do a summary of it. We have to include character analysis, setting analysis, point of view, conflict, whether there was man to man conflict, man to nature conflict, nature to nature etc conflict, we also have to have the plot, of course, what the story is actually about and what happens in it. In Maths, I have currently finished all work I know of that I have to do, unless we have started anything new, so I am doing Mathletics instead of normal work. For writing, we are doing persuasive writing, which is trying get the reader to do something, or change their thoughts against something. Like if it was pets, the writer might want you to go and buy a cat, and, as the reader, you might read it and then go buy a cat.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
All of these days I have had a cold=No school.

Week 5 Term 2

Bonjour!

This week for Monday and Tuesday Mrs Crowe was away at a course, so we had Mr McCabe teaching us.

Monday
For most of the first block we had assembly. Mr McCabe wasn't taking assembly this week, so the assembly was shorter than most weeks. Some people, year eights, got their silver badges, five of them. I am really close to MY silver badge, because I am only six signatures away, and, unfortunately, most of the signatures I need are for Including Others, and those ones are the hardest. After assembly we did writing. I have finished my writing, I just need to edit and proofread it properly.

After interval we were meant to have PE, volleyball in the ALC, but instead we had to sit down on the floor, and Mr McCabe gave us an hour long informative talk about poverty all over the world, and if everyone payed their taxes properly, and gave just a little, everyone, we could stop poverty tomorrow. He also said about the polar bears and global warming, and how soon the ice will have melted, and all gone. He also talked about the Zika Virus, and how if every Olympian from all over the world goes to the Rio Olympics, and then come back to their countries, they will bring back the Zika Virus back all over the world, and everyone will get it.

After the talk, we had Maths. I learnt about fractions, how to order them, and how to find the whole from a given fraction. After lunch, we just had a choice of Writing, Reading or Maths, to finish what we needed.

Tuesday
For first block we had Tech Arts, music. In music, today we were learning how to use GarageBand, an app on Apple devices, that you can make music tracks, songs etc with. Most of us knew how to use the app already, so we got started quickly. We had to pair up in twos and use our Blues song that we wrote last Friday as our lyrics. For our music, Jorja and I used Smart Guitar, and Smart Keyboard, then we recorded our voice track, and we also changed the voice around a bit, making it sound "Chipmunk". Then we plugged the iPads we used into the speakers, and we got to listen to each other's songs. Some of them were funny, cool, and serious. Jorja and my song was about her pet bee, Barry, dying after she stroked it, because it stung her and then died because it didn't like it.

After interval, we had the option of Maths, Reading or Writing, whatever we needed to complete. I did Maths, because I needed to get it done, and I had about five more activities to complete. I finished all of those in the hour and fifteen minutes we had, then our relieve teacher stopped us and set up a game on the whiteboard, kind of like hangman, but if you got a whole word right, your group got five points, if you got one letter right, you got one point, and if you guessed wrong, there was no consequence, you just moved on to the next group.

After lunch, we were going to maybe go out for soccer, but it was raining, so we didn't. That afternoon, I worked on my reading task, the man with enormous wings. I am almost finished, and the due date is tomorrow lunch time.

Wednesday
For the first block, we were going to have maths, but instead we had an ICAS Science test, which was quite hard. The year 8's got one whole hour for the test, and the year 7's got fifty-five minutes. There were forty-five questions in the whole test, and a few I couldn't work out, so I had to guess and move onto the next question. After the test, we maths like we were supposed to, but only for about twenty minutes until interval. In those ten minutes, if we needed to, we got to go to the library to return or issue, or both, a book\s. I went to the library, but I couldn't find what I wanted, so I came back and edited and printed off, then handed in my reading task.

After interval, we had SSR, which stands for Sustained Silent Reading, I think. We had that for fifteen minutes, then we had a choice of reading or writing, and some people also did maths, but I had finished all of those, so I started on a short story competition, called The Power Of Words. The POW is short stories, original ones, written by 11-17 year olds, and to enter you just write your own story and send it to the publisher, who, if she thinks yours is good enough, she publishes it to the world, and if you score first place, you get a World Vision prize pack. The word limit is 700-1500 words. I am doing this, and I am almost finished my story, I think.

After lunch we the year 7's had French, and I continued with my short story competition writing, which I am getting closer to finishing. At ten past two, we went to the ALC for JumpJam, and we did the song Freaks again. It was only the second time doing it, but everyone seemed to know it!

Thursday & Friday
Thursday, I was home sick all day.
Friday, T.O.D; Teacher Only Day, so yay, holiday!
