Bonjour,
Monday
For Maths today I have worked on multiplying and dividing numbers, and multiplying and dividing decimals. To multiply numbers in an algorithm, you need to set it up the the example below. If your equation was 364x45, your algorithm would look like this
364
x45
From that set out, you would start multiplying. First you multiply the column to the lower right, where the number is 5. You then multiply this number with the number above it, which is 4. So it would be 5x4, which, if you do the maths, equals 20. Then you put that number down below the underlined numbers to create your new row of working:
2
364
x45
0
When you have a two digit number, you put the ones column in the line of working, and then tens column number above the next column to the left in your actual equation. Then you multiply the next number, 5x6. Then when you have that number, you add the number above the six to it, so 30+2=32, then you do what was explained before, and add the tens column to the next equation number to the left, making it:
3
364
x45
20
After this you finish the first row, then on the second row, you go down a line and start with a zero (0), and then you repeat the steps above till you have finished the whole second row, you add together the two rows, adding each column.
In class we use mostly Chromebooks, and we always use Google related things on the internet. In the past I have used lots of extensions, that are made for Google and show up in each new tab, making a quick and easy way to do things. We downloaded two extensions. The first one was called Google Dictionary. Google Dictionary is and extension where, when you click the Google Dictionary icon on the tab you are on, it opens in that same tab in the top right hand corner, using little space. When it pops up, you have a bar where you can type any word or phrase. Then you press enter or click the define button, and it will find the meaning of the word for you, quick and easy. The second extension we downloaded was an extension called Save to Google. This extension, when clicked, shows up in the top right hand corner and comes up with an option to add a tag. What this extension does is, when you are in a tab that you want to save or come back to later, and you don't want to leave it open or taking up space, you can click the extension and it will come up with the option to add a tag, then you click save, and it will save your tab, and you can exit out of it. Then when you go onto the website, Save to Google will have all your tagged and saved tabs there for you.
For Reading in class, we are continuing to do a summary of a short story, called The Man With Enormous Wings, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It is a story about an angel who comes down to Earth with a point of giving all the people a message and a lesson. The lesson was to teach the people of that area to respect others, maybe others who may look different, act different, or talk different etc. The angel teaches people about respecting others and not 'judging a book by its cover', in other words, not judging people by the way they look.
Tuesday
In the first block of Tuesday, we had Tech Arts. For Tech Arts at the moment, the subject we are doing is music. I am not the type of person who is really into music and enjoys it, so I have never actually played an instrument before, as in learning one. Today we learnt about Irish music, which is weird but catchy, and it makes you want to dance. We had to write our own Irish jig, and play it on the keyboard so we could hear what it sounded like. My jig was made up of all C's and E's, because they are easiest, for me at least. I don't know what mine sounded like, because I didn't have time to play it on the keyboard. We also learnt some things about ads, and why they were made, and what makes them catchy, and gets your attention. Some of the ads I think are annoying, catchy, stay-in-your-head-all-day, or ones that get your attention are the following. The Warehouse, McDonald's, The Gigabytes ad that was on a while ago, Smith&Smith, and Noel Leeming, especially the part where it goes: 'No one but Noel Leeming..'
For Writing in class, we are currently doing reports, which are due next Wednesday. For the reports, we had to pick a subject out of about seven, and then we were given a sheet of information of our topic. Then from the information we were given, we had to take notes for our report. So far I have four paragraphs, and my subject is Bottle nose Dolphins.
Wednesday
For Maths we have been focusing on Fractions. For fractions, we have been adding, subtracting, converting, and more. To help us with these if we don't understand them, we have links to YouTube videos, where the You tubers explain to us through YouTube how to do things with fractions.
In JumpJam, we learnt a new routine, called Freaks. It is a song that came out last year, and just now we have been shown the routine, and it is really weird. Like all other JumpJam routines, it is very repetitive.
Thursday
For the first block, we had Extension Art. Right now, I am doing a painting of a waterfall that I showed in one of my earlier posts. I am about just over one third of the way finished.
For this Friday, we are doing Winter Games. These are sports, and we get to choose out of about nine. I chose Corner ball. For this, it is basically a game where there are two teams, and one team has the ball, and they have to pass it round to each other, to tag the other team's members with it. But when you have the ball you can't move your feet.
On Thursday afternoon, we had student assembly. What happened was the students of the school took the assembly, and people told us about their camps, upcoming and past school trips, and what is happening or has happened. Every week we have a class choose a video for us, that can be funny, inspirational, etc. The video this week was cool. It was off YouTube, and was done by some people called Dude Perfect, who do trick shots.
Friday
Today for first block we did reading, writing and maths, so we were finishing off work that needed to be done.
In the second block me and Jorja had dishes, and every Friday for morning tea, the teachers have a big morning tea, and I think everyone brings something edible. So when we get there after morning tea, we get to eat some of whatever's left\uneaten.
We also had music for Tech Arts we have music. On Friday we learnt about blues music, from ages ago. Blues music is music, they used to play and I think they still do, over the other side of the world. In the USA and things. We watched a few videos on blues and then we had to write our own blues song with lyrics. We didn't finish our songs, but I write about Jorja's pet which died a long, long time ago. (A bee called Barry.)
This afternoon we had Japanese, then we were supposed to have Winter Sports but it was cancelled due to the weather.
Au Revoir
This deserves a big signature. Definitely. Well done!!!!!!
